My question is, why are they limiting it to 9 visits? Increasing it to 12 or even 24 visits in one day would be helpful to a lot of people. Even better, make the hat acquisition a 2-day deal. Give out hats every one/two/three hours on both Jan 1 and Jan 2. I think a lot of people would be satisfied with that.

I got two hats from last year event. Both Santa hats but don't know if this years, it would have two different version (santa and raindeer hat) per side.

I completly agree, with the amount of characters most of us have now this would make the event a lot easier and much more enjoyable. Getting all the hats is going to be even worse this year if they do the same thing they did for halloween: new hats for tyria and new ones for elona. If this happens there is the possibility to be 4 new hats (since you get different ones for grenth and dwayna) that some of us will want to get for our characters. With the new holliday storage, Im betting more people will actually try to collect them now too. But even with district jumping, it will be almost impossible to get the most out of the final event. Besides after a while rushing to get to each event really kills the fun. Would be much easier with either a visit every hr or by adding an extra day.

People should quit complaining about special events, I'm really glad they're doing this again. while I am mildly disappointed there wont be any boardwalk type stuff in the monastery, it doesn't matter that much to me, I'll have plenty of fun with the snowball fights

I may have missed a good portion of the finale last year, but I was more than satisfied that I was able to get one hat. I don't need one of every type of hat for every char of mine. QUIT WHINING about not being able to get headgear for every last one of your chars, and just get them for your main! And if you can't be home to play during the event, just leave your comp on afk in la. You'll get a hat and can show it off all you want later.

Its scrooges like you whiners who take the joy out of fun events like this.

Again, I never said Wintersday should be associated or called christmas. It just bothers and wonders me that I see people saying that saying christmas would be offending. I dunno, don't care really I think. And I wouldn't know how to call christmas anything else, since holiday is a collecting word for every other holiday. Politically correct? I can say merry christmas to a muslim or asian or atheist or whoever, and I think (s)he'll respond in the same way. I mean, christmas isn't really about the birth of Jesus Christ anymore to many people, it's just celebrating love and peace and getting together with family and friends. Most people even associate presents. (if I understood/remember correctly, Jesus wasn't even born on christmas(eve)) And santaclause? Hmpf, he's just a stolen version of our sinterklaas! Well, at least taken from/based upon. Sorry for the waaaaay off-topic.

Back on topic: how many people really want each hat for each and every character they play? I mean, get one a santa's hat, one a reindeer horns (what do you call them?), another one a pumpkin hat and the next one a wicked hat. What's the big merry deal?
Oh, and happy Xmas to everyone in advance , but for me, it's my birthday first on the 22nd ^^

Anyone has any ideas what the holiday items will be this years? Also is the event any different from last years one where you stand there to listen to Grenth or Dwayna while collecting boxes and doing other stuffs to win presents?

It's an even item. Sorry but if you're not there I don't think you should get something that symbolizes an event you weren't even a part of. That's how I feel about it.

I missed Halloween last year... why shouldn't I be able to get that helm which was different from the pumpkin helm this year. All in all.. I think you should have to be there.

I really do enjoy the events, it keeps the game fresh with something new to aim for. However i hope it's not like Halloween where i had to pick which hat i wanted It would be great if there is other ways to get the festive head gear (like the dragon hat) but i understand thats not really feasible for every event.

Maybe they could stagger the arrival of the "person" giving out the item. Say they turns up at 12.00 in the districts numbered 1-5, then 12.05 in the districts numbered 6-10 etc etc . I think this would be a better solution then the current way because the way it is now was fine when people had only 4 characters but as there's 3 chapters out people myself included struggled to get a hat for each character...

It uses up extra server bandwidth.

thats not true.. the event is for like what a week so people might be there for the event for like 4 days and not there at the end.. so, they were still part of the event. They still were part of it somehow.

It is like saying that just because I visited the States I've shaken the president's hand before. Either you are there or you aren't. There is no such thing as being "part of it somehow".

No, it really i s gg, because this isn't a matter of making a choice, this is a matter of reading a calendar. Wintersday is New Year's Day. No matter how much you celebrate New Year's Eve, I'm quite confident you can make it into the game during one of 9 events over 24 hours on the day after the traditional "party event" date.

Said person wakes up roughly 6-8 hours later (roughly by noon on January 1st). Wouldn't that leave several hours in which to get a hat?
Bingo!

When you understand the finale, and you understand the way the new holiday hat system works, I think you'll be even more cheered. Let me see if I can put up notes on that tomorrow.

Pffft. Responsible people have designated drivers when they go out drinking so why can't you have a designated logger on-ner if you're going to be too hammered to log onto GW to get a hat?

I think the main problem with that is that it's against the rules. Afaik it's a no-no to give someone else your password.

As far as I can see, people's problem with this (or mine, at least) is that they're having to decide between which character of theirs will get the customised items. I don't know how the event will work, but if there are only 9 occurences, assuming you can be online for all 9, gives you a total of 9 hats. Assuming a person has all 3 campaigns merged, means 8 character slots.

So if, like last year, there are two different hats to collect, you get a total of 16 hats, with only 9 chances to get them. Tbh I'd prefer to see items like this customised for the account rather than the character. This would allow people to get the items without having to choose which character would receive them.

Then again I haven't had much of a chance to read up on the Festival this year so my figures are quite likely to be wrong. ^^

and thus then can get some of the items but not all... what's more important rl or gw? I'll let each person come to their own conclusion. Either way by what gaile said it seems though that are absent might still be in luck... we'll see.

Just a quick question on the winterday activities.

I don't get too much time and would like to know if I need to collect anything to get the hat on the last day, or is it just needed to be in the circle like haloween.

And like haloween do I get something even if I am AFK? the times, if they are every 3 hours, will be pretty much when I am getting up and leaving for work.

I missed the fun last year and I really want to experience some of the fun this year, even if I can't attend the finale.

Pfft, the internet cafe I play GW from is open on new years eve, but closed on new years day... So yeah, I'm definitely hijacking a friends computer, as mine is so full of copper heatpipes etc that it's a right sonova to carry
